The ethno-fashion show OwnFashion was launched in 2012 as an event for the graduates of Estonian Native Textile programme to present their final creative works. In succeeding years, we have also welcomed other textile artists and fashion designers to introduce their collections inspired by ethnic roots. The best-known authors and participants include Anu Hint and Lee Reinula.
Ave Matsin, head of department of Estonian native crafts, explains the significance of the event: „OwnFashion differs from other fashion events in that all of the collections presented on stage are deeply rooted in Estonian folk culture. In contrast to fast fashion, we turn our local materials and ethnic patterns into contemporary hand-made clothing of high quality that lasts longer than just one season.“
The next OwnFashion show will take place on June 8, 2017 at Estonian Traditional Music Centre, Viljandi.
