Conference of Applied Theatre DRAMA CONNECTING PEOPLE 24 - 26 Oct 2012
October 24-26, 2012 a 3-day international conference of applied theatre was held in Mäetaguse, Ida-Virumaa, Estonia.
Organisers of this conference were University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, Mäetaguse Secondary School and the Parish of Mäetaguse.
- To spread and introduce new knowledge about participatory theatre and drama methods;
- To develop the skills of practicing drama teachers and professionals in working with different social groups;
- To supplement the skills of trainers and to offer support in working youth groups, enterprises, organisations, communities and language studies;
- To organise drama workshops and study lessons in Ida-Virumaa educational, youth and social institutions.
The conference of applied theatre was held for the third time in Estonia, organised by UT Viljandi Culture Academy. The location - Ida-Virumaa county - was chosen to give the area knowledge in the fields of drama and to introduce new methods.
International conference was designed together with the secondary school and parish of Mäetaguse in small town near-by where we had up to 200 participants.
During the conference there were workshops in forum-theatre, process-drama, story-telling theatre and many other drama-connected workshops and interactive performances that were held by practicing drama professionals such as Prof. Allan Owens from University of Chester and Mr. Pekka Korhonen (MA) from Helsinki University of Theatre TeaK. We also had visiting lecturers from Lithuania and Germany.
We also had many professional educators from our own communities around Estonia who lead workshops in fields named above.
