Classical Animation HVVK.14.113, 3 ECTSLecturer: Svetlana Bogomolova
The course provides an overview of non-digital animation techniques and gives an opportunity to try those techniques in practice, making short but finished animations. The course provides basic knowledge of the history of animation, and participants learn independently to prepare and film animations in drawing, clay, cut-out, pixellation and experimental animation techniques.
During the course participants also work with the animated film scenarios. Although the course is concentrated on non-digital animation techniques, participants also learn the basics of filming and editing and how to use the freeware video editing program DaVinci Resolve.
Attending the course does not require any previous experience. However, preliminary knowledge in drawing, filming, sculpture, video editing and / or screenwriting will be beneficial.
In order to take part in the course, you need a PC for the homework.
Digital Photography HVVK.14.014, 3 ECTS Lecturer: Veiko Klemmer
To whom: practical course for anyone who wants to get to know his/her digital camera and its settings for making good photos.
The course teachers to use various technical settings of digital camera for shooting in accordance with the ambient conditions and desired result. Main themes of the shooting will be covered: the analyses of the frame composition, sensing the position of the viewer, achievement of the three-dimensionality, visual reception, etc.
Digital Painting – Basic Techniques HVVK.14.144, 3 ECTS Lecturer: Veiko Klemmer
The course gives an overview of workflows, possibilities, and different techniques of digital painting in Adobe Photoshop. Participants obtain the necessary toolset for painting in digital medium. Through practical experiments everyone is able to develop their own genuine pictorial style. The skills acquired are easily transferrable also to other graphic softwares (Affinity, Krita).
Since the instruction is largely individual, the course is suitable for beginners as well as for advanced digital painters.
Videography – Basics of Making Videos HVVK.14.138, 3 ECTS Lecturer: Veiko Klemmer
This course gives an overview of the common workflows and principles of video making, provides experience in creativity and self-expression, and develops competence for skillful participation in the evergrowing world of digital medium.
In practical work, settings of DSLR cameras and auxiliary devices, as well as scripting, planning and filming of videos, plus editing and polishing of video clips in DaVinci Resolve will be tested out. The course is suitable for anyone interested in films, video art and videoblogs.
Graphic Design – Photo Editing HVVK.14.137, 3 EAP Lecturer: Veiko Klemmer
The aim of this course is to develop creative thinking by introducing possibilities of digital media in general, and by teaching skills in Adobe Photoshop software in particular.
Through practical assignments we will test out photo manipulation tools, collage making workflows and general graphic design principles necessary for creating album covers, clean photos, decorations, posters, art etc. Those skills are easy to transfer to working with other pixel graphic softwares (Affinity, Gimp).
As this course is individually instructed, it is suitable to everyone interested in graphic design. A camera is needed, possibly with RAW capability, for the course work.
Graphic Design – Vector Workflows HVVK.14.140, 3 EAP Lecturer: Veiko Klemmer
This course gives an overview of the more commonly used workflows and situations in Adobe Illustrator in the context of applied design and infographics. Through practical assignments we will test out design principles, visualizing information and tools necessary for creating logos, posters, user interfaces etc.
As this course is based on personal instruction, it is suitable to everyone interested in specifics of digital design.

In the context of creative illustration, this course gives an overview of more commonly used tools and workflows in Adobe Photoshop with some additions from Adobe Illustrator and Flash. The course centers on case studies of typical solutions to visual problems within the field, including illustration, character and game worlds creation, volumetric sketching, photomontage, short animation.
The course is based on personal instruction and is suitable for all skill levels.

To whom: to everyone who is interested about the interconnection of visual arts with film and gaming industry.
The course provides an overview of the typical work practices and processes of visual arts in the modern film and gaming industries. It gives an overview of graphic softwares’ Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for solving typical visual problems in related fields. There will be painting form from real life with digital tools: such as matte painting collage, vector portrait, creating a character from brief, a visually readable storyboard and short GIF or Flash animation.

To whom: the practical course for anyone who wants to learn about the specifics of vector programmes in creating digital graphics.
The course is primarily web-based and gives practical skills to create design elements with freeware software for web as well as print design. The course teaches to find solutions for the visual expression of information and infographics design. Participants learn the basics of Adobe Illustrator software.
