NEW! Western Music Culture: Part I HVVK.14.149, 3 ECTS Lecturer: Lilian Langsepp
Entirely web-based music history course, the aim of which is to explore the Western music culture by researching, listening to, and singing one of its foundation forms – the Gregorian chant. In addition to learning about the basics of notation, the modes and forms of Gregorian chant, and about Latin pronunciation in Italian style, the participants can train their voice by singing exercises and experience the joy of singing.
Everyone interested in the subject is welcome to join this music course!
Symphony Orchestra HVVK.14.117, 3 ECTS Principal conductor: Taavi Kull
Tartu University Symphony Orchestra is looking for new players! The orchestra welcomes students, lecturers, scientists and everybody else who has played an orchestra instrument and would like to continue or pick it up after a break. The orchestra is waiting for string and brass players and hopes that another bassoon player will find his way to Tartu.
Students who take part of the orchestra work can also get ECTS's if they register to the course via study information system. Only students who pass the entrance audition can join the orchestra. Please fill in a form to apply for the orchestra here.
Themes in the Music of Asian Cultures HVVK.14.002, 3 ECTS Lecturer: Lilian Langsepp
For all who are interested in the introduction to Asian music: Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Indian, Korean.
The course gives historical context and contemporary situation of different traditional Asian music cultures and focuses on the musical instruments, repertoire and performance practices as well.
As a practical part of the course all students get free entrance and are required to participate Tartu Early Music Festival programme.
