Silver ring with cabochon cut stone *
Teacher: Eilve Manglus
Eilve Manglus attained a master’s degree in jewellery art from the Estonian Academy of Arts. Currently, she is working in UT Viljandi Culture Academy as a program manager and lecturer in Estonian Native Metalwork. She is also actively making jewellery and participating in various art projects in her field.
This workshop will introduce basic jewellery making techniques and methods, which are necessary for making a simple silver ring with a cabochon cut stone. Each participant will make a self-designed silver ring, using techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering, stone setting and polishing.
Participants will first draft the design of the ring and further work will be done with the supervisor who helps and demonstrates techniques according to the project’s needs. As a result of the course, the participants know how to use primary goldsmith’s tools.
The participation fee includes jewellery tools. The cost of silver has to be paid extra by weight, 1 euro per 1 gram (about 5-10 euros). The participants have to bring a simple cabochon cut stone, which can be either oval or round in shape. We do not set facet cut stones on the course. You should know the size of the ring if you want to make a ring for someone else. It is also possible to buy some stones from the teacher by different prices if you don’t have your own stone.
This workshop is suitable for beginners, but it is necessary to have good manual skills. Participants with close set eyes must have suitable glasses for themselves at the workshop since the details are very small.
