Estonian Native Crafts Department
Estonian Native Crafts Department is very unique in the world as only here it is possible to obtain applied higher education in the field of Estonian ethnic textile, construction and metalwork.
The mission of the department is to represent the local and native traditions and values that strengthen the sense of identity. This is done by integrating traditional craft techniques into contemporary functional milieu.
Native crafts - it is a craft that uses the colours, patterns, materials and techniques that are unique for specific region. Over the centuries distinctive visual and technological sign system and expressions have developed for Estonian' commodities. Through following these principles in creating and decorating new objects a variety of cultural influences have been domesticated as well.
The admission to crafts programmes takes place in alternate years: Estonian Native Textile in even years and Estonian Native Construction and Metalwork in odd years.
