Events of Estonian Native Crafts
Every year the department organises many different events both on national as well on international level. There are several exhibitions organised every year in addition to open university seminars and workshops, conferences and more.
Third international Estonian crafts workshop week Craft Camp 2016 will be organised on July 9-15 in Olustvere, Viljandi.
First international Estonian crafts workshop week Craft Camp was organised on July 2014 by University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy Estonian Native Crafts Department and Olustvere School of Service and Rural Economics. Craft Camp teachers are all known practitioners from UT Viljandi Culture Academy which is a known centre for professional handicraft teaching. We got our inspiration for organising Craft Camp from Nordic Handicraft Camp (NHC) as different Nordic countries take turn in organising NHC every year and in 2014 it was organised in Estonia. First Craft Camp workshop themes were birch bark items, bone items, ethnographic wristlets, plaited ribbons, archaistic embroidery, glass, ceramics, Afgan pouch and ethnographic wristlets.
Second Craft Camp was organised separately from NHC in July 2015 and invited participants from all over the world. Workshops varied from ethnographic crochet laces & crochet lace motives, archaistic embroidery, ethnographic gloves and mittens to silver earrings, rings and brooches, nalbinding (looped needle-netting) but also woodwork, birch bark items , bone items, ethnographic wristlets and plaited ribbons workshops were given.
