DAMA 14, Malmö
DAMA at MAH
An exploratory workshop on that builds upon the AffeXity project that explores augmented choreographies in cities, and a-fixity as an urban condition. Additionally, the workshop will be part of the performative strand of the Living Archives is a research project that investigates the intersection between performance practices and archiving, connecting open and diverse data through participatory design. The core of these two projects have grown from artistic research, which includes a set of overlapping practices: artistic practices of dance improvisation, screendance, video shooting, digital image editing and sound composition, combined with the daily practices of moving through a city and using mobile devices (Kozel, 2012).
The workshop explores the notion of ethereal media in the context of augmented performances. Following the methods of co-creation and collaborative media, the workshop lasts over the week with a public performance on the fourth evening in the city. Working in different groups we will explore cultural archives, screen dance, augmented audio landscapes, new forms of gaming, and locative media. Additionally, different technologies will be explored and evaluated as cultural production tools. The workshop will involve local stakeholders that range from a documentary film studio to local theatres, the Royal Danish Theatre and Ozma a social game company.
The plan for the workshop is to break into three working groups to explore disappearances (ethereal media), mashing up geo-caching, dance, and cultural archives, and exploring the intersection of performance and games.
Themes to consider for the performance on May 1 are the convergence of the traditional Walpurgis Night festival with the International Workers Day. The university is situated on the remains of the Kockum’s Shipyard, once the largest employer in Malmö in the days the city was an industrial hub rather than the media and knowledge industries.
