Fulbright Scholar David King in Academy for Spring Semester 2013
In Spring semester 2013 academy hosts foreign lecturer David King from
Cabrillo College in U.S. at our Performing Arts Department thanks to Fulbright Scholar program of the U.S. Department of State. David is a dancer, choreographer, durational installation artist and movement educator. His teaching is influenced by Mel Wong’s interpretation of Cunningham Technique, Contact Improvisation, Release Technique, Aikido, and the Feldenkrais Method.
About David King:
In 2001 he received a MA in Dance from the Department of World Arts and Cultures at UCLA. David is co-founder of max10 Performance Laboratory, a monthly performance salon at the Electric Lodge in Venice, CA, and has danced with Cid Pearlman for almost twenty years.
With David King we also have pleasure to welcome a knowledgeable choreographer and dance pedagogue Cid Pearlman who is going to have workshops at the academy and elsewhere in Estonia. During the 2009-10 Cid was a Fulbright Scholar in Estonia, teaching at Tallinn University and collaborating with Estonian dance artists. Read more aboud Cid and her performance projects here.
Both David and Cid have had long term connections with the Estonian dance field since 2009. They have taught and performed at International Young Dance Festival NOTAFE, Hiiumaa Dance Festival, Kanuti Gildi SAAL have acted as jurors for the Estonian festival Koolitants (School Dance), and are members of the Estonia Dance Union.
