Young Musician Competition grand prix goes to Taavi Toomsalu
On 12th April the last Music Triad Young Musician Competition was held in Viljandi. The grand prix and Audience Favourite went to saxophonist Taavi Toomsalu.
Toomsalu studies jazz music in Culture Academy. His main instrument is saxophone. The grand prix was awarded by IS Music's 500 € gift card. Over 40% of audience members voted for Taavi who received a gift card from the local hotel and spa centre as the Audience Favourite.
Best Own Creation title went to singer Maria Gertsjak who received to festival passes for Viljandi Folk Music Festival 2013. She also got the Best Solo Act, split between Laura Junson. Both singers received a scholarship from Estonian Performers Association.
The jury members (singer Hanna-Liina Võsa, composers and teachers Helena Tulve, Lembit Saarsalu, Mart Soo and folk musician/head of festival programme Tarmo Noormaa gave special titles as well:
Special Title by Estonian Traditional Music Centre - to the intrepeter of traditional music, Kaisa Nõges.
Special Title by Helena Tulve - Vootele Ruusmaa.
Special Title by Mart Soo - Riina Reismaa.
Music Triad that ran for the last time from 9th to 12th April in Viljandi had around 350 different guests from Viljandi and Rapla county. The competition final concerts can be watched via Internet in near future.
