I have supervised 14 master’s theses, graduation papers of participants in school headmasters’ continuing education courses, etc.
I have reviewed PhD dissertations, master’s theses, written a number of reviews on graduation papers of participants in teacher training and headmasters’ continuing education courses, seminar papers and graduation theses both in UT and UT VCA, reviews of articles in the “Haridus” journal, reviews to student papers sent to students’ research papers contests, etc.
Main areas of research:
Didactics; designing and managing the learning process; teaching learning skills. Candidate of Sciences dissertation “Development of cartographic skills in general education school”. Later research has been focused on the study of using graphic organisers (incl. concept cards) in teaching and learning, and using different study methods in teaching schoolchildren and adults
Integration of students of other native languages into the Estonian society. In this area, the programme “Estica” was developed and taken into use at school. “Estica” involves Estonian-language teaching in Russian schools. Several textbooks have been compiled and the efficiency of the programme was studied over approx. 10 years. Different learning environments, their dynamics and efficiency.
In this area a longitudinal study was conducted (in 1993, 1998 and 2003) on the dynamics of learning information environment of students of both Estonian and Russian schools. The study also involved the main characteristics of textbooks from the aspect of students.
Work of hobby instructor/leisure time manager at school.
Total number of research publications – 81 (total number of publications 106). Also 16 textbooks and teaching aids for general education schools have been published, as well as teaching aids for higher education institutions; and several collections have been edited.
