Student Theatre Festival is the only festival in Estonia for amateur student (university, school of applied sciences or colleges) theatre groups to come together. It happens for the 13th time in 2015 and has always been held in Viljandi where it is organized by students themselves.
The festival is NOT a competition as the quality and possibilities of amateur groups is different and hard to judge. We do, though, give feedback after every performance. That is done by professional theatre directors, actors, technicians or critics of Estonian theatre.
The festival usually takes place on the second weekend of February in University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy. The festival consists of performances by the theatre groups, their feedbacks, workshops (different skills and knowledge), Festival Clubs (live music parties), community-based happenings in the town and, if possible, a debate on a “hot” theatre topic.
Three wisemen are this year Ragne Veensalu, Vallo Kirs, Erki Aule. Under their firm sight eight groups step into the limelight – 5 of them from Estonia and 3 from abroad. From our homeland the groups that come to conquer Viljandi are T-Teater, Tartu Üliõpilasteater, Ruutu 10, Linnar Priimäe Üliõpilasteater ja K-äng2. Our very welcomed and expected foreign friends are from Finland – Helsinki Üliõpilasteater and Kellariteatre and from Latvia – ZONA.
15th Student Theatre Festival takes place in UT Viljandi Culture Academy from 17-19 February 2017. Programme:
